We have all the necessary facilities at both of our premises to perform soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery and provide a comprehensive dentistry service.

As pet owners ourselves we know how worrying it is if your pet has to have an operation, so we promise to look after and care for your pet to the highest possible standard – we completely understand how much your pet means to you.

The most critical part of any operation is the general anaesthetic. This induces unconsciousness, relaxes the muscles and blocks pain. Although essential, no anaesthetic is 100% safe. The safest anaesthetic drugs act quickly, can be rapidly and easily controlled, wear off quickly without harming the vital organs (liver, kidneys, heart and brain) and have a high safety margin.

We use a combination of a pre-medication sedative and pain killer followed by a short acting injection to induce rapid anaesthesia and then a gas to keep the patient asleep for the duration of the operation. We use the most modern and safest combination available (indeed the gas we use is used in human medicine for anaesthetising babies because of its high safety margin). Anaesthetics at our practice are monitored only by fully qualified Registered / highly experienced Veterinary Nurses with many hundreds of hours of anaesthetic monitoring between them.

If your pet is over 8 years old we may advise a pre-anaesthetic blood test to assess the state of health of the liver and kidneys and to check for any problems which may increase risk.
