This involves implanting a small transponder under the skin between the shoulders. It provides a unique identification number which is stored on a central database along with all your details. This enables your pet to be returned to you if they go missing and are collected as a stray. Remember to inform the database if you move! Micro-chipping is also essential for the Pet Passport Scheme. The chip is implanted via a needle and can be performed during a normal consultation. We would not recommend doing it at first vaccination but at any time after this is fine providing your pet is a reasonable size. There is now a new, slightly more expensive microchip called “Bio-therm” which can also read the body temperature, saving your pet the unpleasant experience of a thermometer!
