Recent changes in guidelines from the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) and Department of Trade and Industry have made it necessary to introduce more strict control on the prescribing and dispensing of Prescription Only Veterinary Medicines (POM-V).

As a result we now have a system in place whereby you can collect medicines for your pet on a repeat prescription basis, providing that pet has been recently examined by a veterinary surgeon and a repeat prescription authorisation has been set up on your pet's clinical record.

It is extremely important that these regular checks are attended. With time your pet's situation and requirements may change and with some long-term illnesses the condition itself can progress, requiring alterations in doses or drugs used.

At the time of a consultation or check up for an on-going problem, you will have the opportunity to discuss any problems or queries which may have arisen since the previous examination. The case veterinary surgeon will also be able to make a judgement on the time interval required before the next check is due. This will be based on many factors including the nature of the problem, the recent stability, and the potential for complications to arise in the interim period. The practice policy is to give a maximum period for this of 3 months, but this may be extended depending on the case, at the veterinary surgeon's discretion.

We are happy to provide prescriptions for animals under our care, for which we charge a fee. We regret that prescription only medicines can not be dispensed for animals not under our care, i.e. those not checked on a regular basis. We can however dispense medication against a prescription written by another Veterinary Surgeon.

You can now order medication for your pets' repeat prescription by email. Please ensure your pet has been checked by a vet within the last 3 months.
