Hilary and Jon Marshall (&Holly)

We were at Hillyfields Vets  this morning to have Holly's paw checked following removal of a growth.  We were unable to come yesterday to see Rob who operated and has looked after Holly since the surgery, so booked to see Tim this morning.  Tim was happy with it and doesn't think it needs seeing again.  However we were sorry not to be able to see Rob for the last visit and want to thank him for the excellent job he has done and the meticulous care he has taken in the weeks following the op.  It's all healed up and looking good and she's very happy!  Once again many thanks Rob for your time and skill.

A friendly well run practice with sensible opening hours and always someone on the end of the phone when needed. Without their diligence, help and support over the past few years I doubt we'd still have our two elderly and poorly cats. We recommend for these reasons.

My dog Nellie loves going to these vets. She pulls to go in every time we go near it. This is despite her having to have a tooth out there under general anesthetic and having her yearly jabs there. It's not just the treats they give her (although I'm sure that helps!), but everyone makes a fuss of her and is very caring. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

We would highly recommend Alexandra Vets because of the dedication they have shown to our Golden Retriever Jasmine. Jasmine has had cruciate ligament operations and has been through a lot of proceedures this past year and yet she always enters the surgery with enthusiasm and is always delighted to see Rob and the rest of the team. She cannot get through the door fast enough! All the vets and nurses are extremely professional yet have that personal touch that is so important, offering sound advice and reassurance when a decision about a well loved pet has to be made. Thanks to their dedication Jasmine is now making an excellent recovery and can enjoy her walks. We cannot thank Rob and his team enough, their skills and devotion have given Jasmine a new lease of life.

I have been a customer at Hillyfields Vets for the past 10 years or more and have had many occasions to visit the practice with several cats we have had over the years. The animals have had various problems from digestive disorders to hyperthyroidism and everything in between. I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all you did to help Socks during her last week. I found you all to be incredibly professional but also very caring and kind. You may think it is ‘just doing your job’ but from what I saw you all do your jobs fantastically well, and while it didn’t make a very sad situation any easier, it does make a difference and mean a lot to know that Socks was with people who genuinely cared about her well being. Thank you

This is just to say thank you for the care you have given my dogs. Thanks to you their visits to the vets were a calm, gentle and friendly occasion. This ‘Rob’ has known nothing else. My old ‘Rob’ was nervous wreck until you took him over and the treatment from you transformed him. I often think of his indignant bark when you took another dog into your room before him. I shall always remember your reaction to his collapse. I’m sure you saved his life then and prolonged his life. Your care of him at the end was a great comfort to me. This ‘Rob’ flourishes in spite of his illness 18 months ago.

Joe my 10 year old Border Terrier was presented at Hillyfields Vets, Winscombe, with symptoms of severe incontinence and excessive drinking and eating. Rob Kilby BVetMed MRCVS took on the case and diagnosed Cushing’s Disease, which, after tests has been successfully treated with continuing medication. Joe attends surgery regularly for tests to ensure all is well, plus any extra treatment he may require. My sincere thanks go to Rob and his practice partner Tim for all their expertise and kindness shown in all aspects of veterinary treatment and care.

I would also like to thank all the nurses who have the knowledge to deal with a difficult dog such as mine and for their prompt answers to veterinary questions which I may have.

I can only add that Joe is just a dog to anyone else, but to me he is ‘my dog’ and deserves all the love and best of care that Hillyfields Vets show in abundance.

Christa-Marie North and her cats Coco, Maisy and Nyx

In June 2007, following increasing disenchantment with a veterinary practice in a neighbouring town at which I had Persian cats registered for well over a decade, I decided to transfer to Alexandra Vets with immediate effect and have not looked back since.

Within 10 days of adopting 2 Persian cat from a rescue centre it was discovered that they both had serious long term health issues. I lost one in February 2007 and was told the other one, Coco, didn’t have long to go. Under Mr Tim Wilson’s care Coco thrived. The quality of his life improved so much that he was seemingly a cat without any problems whatsoever.

In my opinion the Alexandra Vets practice excels in every respect. The sheer professionalism which one encounters throughout is certainly unrivalled. The welfare of one’s animals is of primary importance to the vets and staff alike. Words can not describe just how I appreciate this practice and the principles on which it is founded.

A big THANK YOU to everyone at Alexandra Vets.

Mrs Bamber, Vicky and Snowy

In 2003 having recently moved house, we chose Vicky a black and white cat from the RSPCA Rescue Centre, what a character she was. I registered with Hillyfields Vets and met David and Sally. Vicky was by no means a young cat, and she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. This was only the beginning of regular monthly visits to the surgery.

Tim and Rob appeared on the scene (in 2006) and like Vicky I was dubious of the new vets, added to this another cat had adopted us. The new member of the family we called Snowy. I now had two cats to get used to new vets, after only a couple of visits I soon became very confident in Tim’s caring nature when treating my cats.

They were always happy after their visit generally feeling better than before. Sadly, Vicky died, very unexpectedly, just before Christmas 2008. Tim and all the nurses did everything they could possibly do to reduce Vicky’s suffering. Fortunately, Snowy enjoys better health than Vicky did, needing only a manicure from Tim on a regular basis.

I thoroughly recommend Hillyfields Vets to any animal lover for I know they will treat their animals with the utmost kindness and respect.

Cynthia & Michael Reed and their dogs Scrumpy, Bertie and Polly

To give our dogs (Scrumpy, Polly and Bertie) a real treat – we take them to Hillyfields Vets. They like it so much, that if left in the car whilst we fetch pet food etc. they bark, whine and whimper to be let out and will escape into the surgery if at all possible.

On one occasion, our elderly and very nervous Jack Russell was being walked up over Hillyfields whilst the others were being treated. Such was his fear of missing out that he slipped his collar and ran back to the surgery and sat waiting his chance to get through the door.

Needless to say, the veterinary care and treatment is of the very highest standard and our only criticism or observation is that we too cannot register for treatment.

Geoff & Jo Bazley and their Husky Shackleton

Shack (Shackleton) one of two Siberian Huskies is a stoic type and like the rest of the breed, rarely shows pain, preferring to get on with the business of being a Husky i.e. sleeping, eating, walking and giving love and affection to all, even when ears are pulled and eyes poked. It was in May 2007 that my wife noticed an uncharacteristic lump on his left hind leg. This was growing at quite a rate as we had not noticed it when he was last groomed, probably only a few days before.

Rob Kilby saw Shack the same day, the caring response of all the team at Alexandra Vets was superb, showing a degree of care to Shack and the other members of the family that was much appreciated. Various X-rays and tests established the cause of Shack’s illness (a bone tumour) and it became clear that his only hope for survival lay in amputation of his left hind leg along with a course of chemotherapy. Tim Wilson, his team and the family were all of the same mind and were not about to give up on Shack, the photo of him standing just a few hours after (the operation) bears testament to the skill of Tim and the operating team.

Months of chemotherapy, x-rays and blood tests followed, the cost of which were born by insurance arranged through Alexandra Vets, all we had to do was sign a form and they did the rest for us. It’s all but 12 months since the operation and Shack is doing fine, so thanks guys

Lez Saker and Albert the cockerel

Dear Tim, Albert is in fine form after the heroic needle work job you did on him earlier in the year. Unfortunately the only ‘before’ picture of him I have does not really show the extent of his injuries or any of your needlecraft.

Thank you very much for all the care you gave him even though I am sure you must have had some doubts as to whether he would make it on his first visit.

He definitely has regained his confidence, as well as three new hens in the run with him. I think the dog would surely come off second best now, or at least have serious doubts about trying anything again. Thanks for all your care.

Our dog is a rescue dog who came to live with us nearly three years ago. We visited a few Vet’s surgeries and chose Alexandra vets as they seemed very friendly and welcoming. We visit them fairly regularly as unfortunately our dog doesn’t enjoy the best of health. She loves going there, adores all the staff ( and the treats they all give her!) and they make a huge fuss of her. I would recommend them as they are very thorough and efficient. I also find it useful that I can ring and receive advice over the phone and if they say they will ring me back. they always keep that promise.
